Lithium Air Cell Technology

Our Lithium Air battery research has produced a 10X power breakthrough: a high-temperature Lithium Air cell that breathes oxygen from the air.

During discharge, oxygen from ambient air is oxidized and conducted into the molten salt through the oxygen ion conductive solid outer casing. Lithium is oxidized and conducted through the lithium ion conductive ceramic casing into the molten salt. Dissolved lithium/oxygen reaction product accumulates within molten salt.

During Recharge dissolved lithium/oxygen reaction product is reduced with oxygen being conducted through the casing made of solid oxygen ion conducting electrolyte. The Oxygen ions are reduced externally at the positive electrode and released. Lithium ions are conducted through the lithium electrolyte solid ceramic casing where they are reduced back to lithium as it accumulates within the reservoir.
